Energy Efficiency And The Log Home
January 20th, 2012Log homes are actually more energy efficient than some people might think. They are even energy efficient in the mountains of Montana where the winters are cold and the summer months can be very warm. Log cabins are made from logs and not a whole lot else. When you build a log cabin, you often build them in the mountains with one thought in mind-you don’t want to move. This means the location you build the cabin in is one that should not receive a lot of snow or rain, and if it does you need to build the cabin accordingly. Since the cabin is made of wood, it will hold heat better than a metal home. The wood will absorb the heat in the winter so you won’t need to use electricity to heat the home, saving you money. And in the summer, the wood will keep the home cooler because of the natural cooling effect that wood has. This means again that you won’t have to use as much electricity to cool your home.
When it rains, you can use the wood in the log cabin as a cooling effect as well. As it rains, the wood will cool. In the summer, this will be a huge benefit. During the day when it is very hot, you will be rewarded with the rainfall and the collective efforts of your log home. Building a log home not only is appealing to the eye, but it will save you money in the long run. You can cut your own wood when you build your home, so you don’t have to buy any building materials. When it comes to heating and cooling your home, the house itself is a natural thermostat so you pretty much don’t even need any extra help with outside resources.
